Cinderella Opening Night!
My Experience in Cinderella the Musical!
I am currently sitting in the girls’ dressing room on opening night for Cinderella, and I thought, “Why not document this experience?”.
Cinderella has been quite the wild ride. It’s honestly all been a blur—it feels just like yesterday when I was in the audition room… and now it’s opening night!
I’ve always loved musical theater, for pretty much my entire life. My dad majored in musical theater writing in college so I’ve been listening to and being in musicals for as long as I can remember.
Cinderella has been my favorite musical I have ever been in so far. I’ve always loved journaling (especially during important and exciting times in my life!) and I am so excited that I get to share my “journal” for Cinderella with all of you!
I’ve spent my afternoon doing my stage makeup and putting on my costume. The cast had pasta for dinner but I didn’t eat much… maybe it’s the nervous-ness or maybe it’s just because I’m excited.
We just did mic-check and I am currently waiting in the dressing room, doing some vocal warm-ups before we’re called to be onstage. I am nervous… but really excited regardless. We’re starting at 6:30 and it is currently 5:55.
Some members of the cast are doing the final touches on the glass slippers—and they are looking beautiful! Rather than doing real glass slippers (or at least see-through slippers) we’re putting these tiny silver plastic jewels on white heels. It looks absolutely amazing even though it takes so long due to the jewels being so small.
Ooh! Looks like my cast is meeting before it starts—I’ll be back!
We just had our cast meeting (which is always so inspiring and makes me so excited!!) and we get started in about 15 minutes. Most of the audience is here already and it’s feeling real now.
Alright, they just called places! I’ll be back ;)
We just finished the big ensemble/dance/singing song which went really well! I am now doing a costume change for the dress/carriage transformation which is at the end of this act.
Other than my mic not turning on right away for my solo (which wasn’t a super big deal) and my dance solo(s) went great as well!
While I didn’t have much time to document the rest of the show, I am so glad that I documented the beginning to look back on in the future! Thank you so much for reading, and be on the lookout for more theater journals and just posts in general in the near future!
God bless,
Elizabeth🌻

Reading this as we’re getting ready to open our school’s production of Annie soon pretty soon!!
As a theater kid (now adult), this was fun to read. I'm rehearsing for a show now myself (Frozen, playing Elsa and Anna's mum), and it's my first time doing in a musical in years! Can't wait to experience all the final backstage prep and glitter again like you went through here. :)
